The carmaker will finally introduce petrol variants of the Tata Safari and Harrier Petrol in November 2025, powered by a brand-new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Design and Features

While the Tata Safari and Harrier Petrol have already received design updates recently, the upcoming petrol versions are not expected to feature major cosmetic changes. Both SUVs will continue with their bold styling, wide grille design, connected LED DRLs, and strong road presence. Inside, buyers can expect a familiar premium cabin layout with a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and ADAS features in higher variants.

Engine and Performance

The highlight will be Tata’s newly developed 1.5-litre GDI turbo petrol engine. This four-cylinder motor is tuned to produce 168 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque, offering a good balance of performance and efficiency. Customers will be able to choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

The engine is also expected to be introduced later with the upcoming Tata Sierra, which will launch first as an EV in 2026. With this addition, Tata will finally offer a petrol option alongside the existing 2.0-litre diesel engine that currently powers both SUVs.

Mileage and Efficiency

Although official mileage figures are yet to be revealed, the petrol-powered Tata Safari and Harrier Petrol are expected to deliver a fuel efficiency of around 14–16 kmpl, depending on the variant and gearbox choice. This should make them competitive against petrol rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and MG Hector.

Price and Market Positioning

One of the biggest advantages of introducing a petrol engine will be lower starting prices. Currently, both Tata Safari and Harrier Petrol are offered only with a diesel engine, which keeps the entry price relatively high. The petrol variants are expected to be more affordable, making these SUVs accessible to a larger set of buyers. Prices are likely to start around ₹16–17 lakh (ex-showroom).

Conclusion

The launch of Tata Safari and Harrier Petrol variants in November 2025 will strengthen Tata’s position in the midsize SUV segment. With a new turbo petrol engine, competitive features, and improved affordability, the SUVs are likely to attract more buyers during the festive season.
