Kia EV4 and EV5 Unveiled in Europe – US Buyers Left Behind

Kia EV4 and EV5: Kia is expanding its electric vehicle lineup in Europe, and the strategy is beginning to show results. After the compact Kia EV3 launched late last year, it quickly became the UK’s most popular retail EV in January. With strong demand carrying through the first half of 2025, Kia is following it up with more all-electric models – the EV4 hatchback, its sedan variant, and the family-oriented EV5 SUV.

The EV4 is Kia’s first fully electric hatchback, aimed at buyers who want a practical city car with long-range capability. The design is clean and modern, with sharp LED headlights, slim tail-lamps, and an aerodynamic silhouette that helps improve efficiency. Kia has also revealed a Fastback, or sedan version, giving buyers another option with a sportier look.

Inside, the EV4 carries a minimal dashboard with dual displays, recycled materials, and a focus on user-friendly tech. Expect a built-in NACS charging port for Tesla Supercharger access in North America. In Europe, it will be the first Kia EV built at the brand’s Zilina plant in Slovakia, which should shorten delivery times.

On performance, Kia claims a driving range of up to 388 miles (WLTP) for the hatch and 380 miles for the sedan. Powertrain options include both single- and dual-motor setups, with outputs expected to range between 200 and 300 hp. In the US, the EV4 will arrive only as a sedan in early 2026, likely starting around $35,000.

The EV5 takes aim at the Tesla Model Y with its larger SUV proportions and flexible interior. First launched in China in 2023, the updated European version gets subtle styling tweaks and upgraded software. Kia promises generous cabin space with sliding rear seats and a flat floor, making it practical for families.

Range figures are expected to be around 310–330 miles depending on the battery pack. While the EV5 is set to launch in Europe later this year, North America will only see it in Canada by 2026 – not in the US, at least for now.

Outlook- Kia EV4 and EV5

Kia’s decision to prioritize Europe comes as tariffs and policies in the US make EV launches more challenging. With the EV3 already proving its popularity, the Kia EV4 and EV5 are expected to strengthen Kia’s foothold in the European EV market. Meanwhile, US buyers will need to wait longer, with the EV4 sedan being the only confirmed model on the way.
