Land Rover Baby Defender Design and Styling
Early images and reports suggest the Baby Defender will retain the rugged stance that has made the Defender nameplate iconic. Expect a boxy silhouette, upright stance, and signature LED lighting elements that mirror the larger Defender. At around 4.6 metres in length, two metres wide, and under 1.8 metres in height, it will be noticeably more compact, making it easier to use in city environments while still looking tough enough for light off-road use.
Platform and Powertrain

The SUV will be built on Land Rover’s new EMA platform, which has been developed to support pure-electric vehicles. The Baby Defender will be a fully electric model, likely offered with dual-motor configurations for all-wheel drive capability. The platform will also support 800V fast-charging technology, allowing charging speeds of up to 350 kW. This could mean significantly reduced charging times compared to current EVs in the segment.
Battery supply for the model is expected to come from Tata’s upcoming gigafactory in the UK, while production will take place at Land Rover’s Merseyside facility. This not only ensures strong British roots but also helps the company streamline costs for a more competitive price point.

Land Rover Baby Defender Features and Technology

Inside, buyers can expect a modern cabin loaded with the latest Land Rover tech, including connected car features, premium upholstery, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and digital displays. While it will be smaller than the standard Defender, the Baby Defender will still be positioned as a luxury compact SUV rather than a budget offering.
Land Rover Baby Defender Price and Rivals
The Land Rover Baby Defender will serve as the entry point into the Defender lineup, helping the brand appeal to younger buyers and families looking for a premium but smaller SUV. Pricing details are still under wraps, but it is expected to be positioned below the larger Defender, making it more accessible within the luxury EV market.
Once launched, it will compete directly with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz “Little G” electric SUV, which is also due in 2027. Together, they will define a new space for compact, luxury electric off-roaders.
