Upcoming Toyota SUVs: Toyota is planning to expand its SUV lineup in India with the introduction of two new mid-size SUVs, leveraging its partnership with Maruti Suzuki. The Japanese automaker is expected to first launch a mass-market electric SUV, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, followed by a hybrid SUV based on the upcoming Maruti Escudo. Both models are likely to hit Indian roads in 2026, although Toyota has not officially confirmed the exact timelines.

1. Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

The Urban Cruiser EV, which made its global debut recently, will be produced at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant for both domestic and international markets. Measuring 4.28 meters in length with a 2.7-meter wheelbase, the SUV rides on the new e-HEARTECT skateboard platform. It will be available with 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs, offering a potential range of up to 500 km under real-world conditions.
The EV comes with a large 10.25-inch digital instrument console, a fixed glass roof, and a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Toyota will equip the Urban Cruiser EV with Level 2 ADAS, front parking sensors, and a comprehensive infotainment system. This SUV is expected to compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, and Tata Curvv EV.

2. Toyota Hybrid SUV (Based on Maruti Escudo)

The second SUV will be a hybrid model positioned between the Toyota Taisor and Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It will share the body panels and interior layout with the Maruti Escudo but will feature Toyota’s signature front fascia and a refreshed cabin color scheme.
Expected features include Level 2 ADAS, a powered tailgate, front parking sensors, and a larger touchscreen infotainment system. Engine options are likely to include a 1.5L TNGA hybrid, a 1.5L NA petrol, and a 1.5L CNG unit. Mileage figures have not been disclosed, but the hybrid powertrain is expected to deliver a good balance of efficiency and performance.

While exact pricing for the Upcoming Toyota SUVs in India is yet to be announced, both models are expected to be competitively priced within the mid-size SUV segment.
