Hyundai’s Genesis Luxury Cars May Soon Debut in India

Hyundai is preparing to shake up the Indian luxury car market with the possible debut of its premium division, Genesis. The news comes straight from Hyundai’s Annual Report 2024-25, where Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director & COO of Hyundai Motor India, confirmed that the brand is under serious evaluation for the Indian market.

Launched globally as a standalone premium brand in 2015, Genesis has made a name for itself with models like the flagship G90 sedan, the G80, and the stylish GV70 and GV80 SUVs. Over the years, Genesis has gained a strong following in international markets for its blend of bold design, advanced technology, and focus on comfort. If brought to India, Genesis will compete head-on with established luxury giants such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Jaguar Land Rover, and Volvo.

Design and Interior

Hyundai’s Genesis Luxury Cars May Soon Debut in India

Genesis cars are known for their distinctive styling, with a design philosophy that emphasizes elegance and modern luxury. Expect bold grilles, sleek LED lighting signatures, and coupe-like silhouettes that stand apart from typical luxury sedans and SUVs. Inside, the focus will likely be on premium leather upholstery, advanced digital displays, and a cabin layout designed to offer both driver and passenger comfort. Genesis models globally come equipped with customizable ambient lighting, soft-touch materials, and a refined dashboard design that balances technology with simplicity.

Features and Technology

On the features front, Genesis is expected to bring in a host of luxury amenities. This could include large infotainment screens with connected car technology, premium sound systems, wireless charging, ventilated and heated seats, and advanced driver assistance features. Globally, Genesis models offer Level 2 autonomous driving features, a suite of safety aids such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360-degree camera system — features Indian buyers are increasingly looking for in the premium segment.

Engine Options and Mileage

Hyundai’s Genesis Luxury Cars May Soon Debut in India

While Hyundai has not revealed engine details for India, Genesis globally offers a mix of turbo-petrol, V6, and hybrid powertrains. Considering India’s market trends and stricter emission norms, the lineup may include a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine alongside a more powerful 3.5-litre V6 in select models. Hybrid options could also be on the cards, aligning with Hyundai’s push towards eco-friendly mobility. Fuel efficiency will vary depending on the engine, but Genesis is expected to balance performance with competitive mileage for its class.

Expected Price and Launch Timeline

If launched, Genesis models will likely come to India as fully imported units at first, taking advantage of tax relaxations. Prices are expected to start around ₹60 lakh, placing Genesis directly in the luxury car bracket. Over time, local assembly could help bring prices down. While no official launch date has been announced yet, the brand could arrive in India by 2026, in line with Hyundai’s broader plan to roll out 26 new models by FY 2029-30, including six electric vehicles.

The entry of Genesis could redefine luxury motoring for Indian buyers, offering a fresh alternative to the established European brands while strengthening Hyundai’s position in the premium market.
