Maruti Escudo SUV Coming Soon – Creta Rival with Hybrid Engine & Bold Design

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to introduce a brand-new SUV to the Indian market. It’s internally called the Y17, but word is it could go by the name Maruti Escudo when it launches. Slated to arrive on September 3, 2025, this new model is expected to sit right between the Brezza and Grand Vitara, aiming directly at popular midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The Escudo has already been spotted testing a few times, and it’s clear that Maruti is going for a slightly bigger body than the Brezza — possibly even longer than the Grand Vitara. That means better cabin room and maybe even a larger boot, which will come in handy for families.

What to Expect in Maruti Escudo Design & Features

Even though it’s based on the same underpinnings as the Grand Vitara, the new Escudo is shaping up to have its own personality. From what we’ve seen in spy shots, it looks a bit more upright and SUV-ish, maybe even slightly chunkier than its sibling. Step inside, and it’ll likely carry a simple, no-fuss layout — think a decent touchscreen, auto AC, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Maruti’s usual connected features. It may not be flashy, but it should cover all the basics well.

Maruti Escudo Powertrain and Fuel Efficiency

The SUV is expected to get the same 1.5-litre petrol engine as the Grand Vitara. That includes both mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid options. The strong hybrid in particular should deliver excellent mileage — potentially 25 kmpl or more, making it a smart choice for buyers looking to cut fuel costs.

The Maruti Escudo will likely be sold through Maruti’s Arena showrooms, rather than the Nexa chain. This could mean Maruti is aiming for aggressive pricing. While nothing is official yet, a starting price of around ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom) seems likely, with the top-end strong hybrid variant going up to ₹20 lakh.

Maruti has already started production of the Escudo, and bookings may open very soon. If you’re considering a compact SUV and waiting for a new option from Maruti, this could be the one to watch.
