Maruti S-Presso Price Drop: The Maruti S-Presso, one of India’s most popular entry-level hatchbacks, might soon become more affordable if the government implements a major GST reduction this festive season. Reports suggest that the GST on small cars could be cut from 28% to 18%, which could significantly lower the on-road prices.

What Could Change with the GST Cut?
Currently, small cars attract 28% GST along with a 1% cess, making the total tax about 29%. For example, if a car has an ex-showroom price of ₹5 lakh, the final price after tax goes up to nearly ₹6.45 lakh. If GST is reduced to 18%, the overall tax will drop to around 19%. This means the same car would cost approximately ₹5.90 lakh – almost 10% less than the current price.
Maruti S-Presso Price Drop: Current vs Expected

At present, the base variant of the Maruti S-Presso starts at around ₹4.70 lakh (ex-showroom). After the proposed GST reduction, the price could fall by ₹42,000–₹43,000, bringing it closer to ₹4.27 lakh. For first-time car buyers and budget-conscious customers, this could be a big relief.

Design and Features
The Maruti S-Presso is designed as a micro-SUV with a tall stance, upright front fascia, and compact dimensions, making it easy to drive in city traffic. Inside, the car offers a digital instrument cluster placed in the center, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and dual airbags for safety.
Engine and Mileage

Powering the S-Presso is a 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine that produces 66 bhp and 89 Nm of torque. It comes with both a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT option. The car is also available with a CNG variant, which is popular for its low running costs. In terms of fuel efficiency, the petrol version delivers around 25 km/l, while the CNG variant offers approximately 32 km/kg.
